Review the medium-carbon grade composition and define any additional chemical limits in your order.
| Element | Reference Composition |
|---|---|
| Carbon (C) | 0.43–0.50% |
| Manganese (Mn) | 0.60–0.90% |
| Phosphorus (P) | ≤ 0.030% |
| Sulfur (S) | ≤ 0.035% |
| Silicon (Si) | Heat analysis confirmed on the MTC |
SAE J403:2024 chemistry reference. The purchase specification determines the applicable chemistry limits and material acceptance for your 1045 bars.
Increased carbon content gives 1045 a different strength and heat-treatment response from lower-carbon grades such as 1018. Your ordered bar condition remains essential to component performance.
Use supply-condition data to evaluate the starting bar material. Your required performance and diameter should be specified in the purchase order.
| Condition / Ø 19–32 mm | Tensile* | Yield* |
|---|---|---|
| Hot rolled | ≈ 565 MPa | ≈ 310 MPa |
| Cold drawn | ≈ 625 MPa | ≈ 530 MPa |
*Reference examples for selected 19–32 mm round bars at room temperature. Actual strength, elongation and hardness vary by bar diameter, reduction and processing condition. Confirm acceptance values in the MTC.
1045 is commonly specified for machinery parts that may require normalizing, quenching and tempering, or localized surface hardening. Define the treatment schedule and any target hardness or strength in your inquiry.
Select the carbon grade and condition that match your machining, strength and heat-treatment requirements.
Medium-carbon steel commonly specified for shafts, axles, hubs and other mechanical components requiring a tailored material condition.
Lower-carbon bar commonly used for machined parts, pins and formed components where the purchase specification favors its workability.
