BASE STEEL / HEAT ANALYSIS

DX51D Substrate Chemical Composition

The steel substrate and the aluminum-zinc coating have separate chemical specifications. Values below refer to the DX51D steel cast analysis, not the metallic coating.

ElementMaximum mass %Procurement relevance
Carbon (C)0.18Commercial forming-grade substrate; check actual heat analysis
Silicon (Si)0.50Cast-analysis reference for the substrate
Manganese (Mn)1.20Substrate chemistry limit
Phosphorus (P)0.12Impurity limit under the referenced edition
Sulfur (S)0.045Substrate impurity limit
Titanium (Ti)0.30Confirm applicable grade rules and any order agreement
Chemistry basis: DX51D cast-analysis maxima shown from EN 10346:2015. The metallic AZ coating typically contains approximately 55% Al, 43.4% Zn and 1.6% Si by mass. Verify the actual melt and coated-product specification on the material certificate.

FORMING QUALITY / MATERIAL PROPERTIES

DX51D+AZ Mechanical Properties

For the EN 10346:2015 DX51D reference, tensile strength is specified while a single guaranteed minimum yield value is not. Formability still depends on thickness and process.

PropertyDX51D referenceConditions
Tensile strength, Rm270–500 MPaTransverse direction; EN 10346:2015 reference
Yield strengthNo specified fixed rangeConfirm if your structural calculation requires a guaranteed yield strength
Elongation, A80Minimum 22%Standard thickness conditions; reductions apply in thinner gauges
Cold forming categoryBending / profilingFor roll forming and moderate bends; trial approval for complex parts
High-strength useSpecify a structural grade separatelyDX51D is not a substitute for certified S-series structural performance

Values are reference criteria under a specified edition. Thinner gauges can use modified elongation minima; order against the actual thickness and agreed test conditions.

Formability Should Match the Profile

DX51D is typically selected for roll forming and bending applications. Tight folds, deep draws and complex stamped parts require drawing-grade evaluation and may need separate mill trials.

  • Bend radius and profile geometry
  • Substrate gauge and thickness definition
  • AZ coating adhesion at formed edges
  • Required surface appearance after profiling
  • Fabrication test requirements for the final part
ALUMINUM-ZINC COATING / AZ CLASS

AZ100, AZ150 & AZ185 Coating Options

AZ designation specifies nominal coating mass requirements across both sides of the steel strip under the referenced standard edition. It is not an individual-side mass.

LIGHTER AL-ZN COATING

AZ100

100 g/m²

Minimum triple-spot average coating mass, total both surfaces, under EN 10346:2015.

COMMON PROJECT CHOICE

AZ150

150 g/m²

Minimum triple-spot average coating mass, total both surfaces; common in building-envelope substrates.

HIGHER MASS OPTION

AZ185

185 g/m²

Minimum triple-spot average coating mass, total both surfaces. Specify the intended environment and coating tests.

Important distinction: AZ refers to an aluminum-rich zinc alloy coating (approximately 55% Al). ZA refers to a different, zinc-rich alloy coating. AZ150 also differs from Z150: the coatings have different compositions and corrosion behavior. No direct service-life equivalence is implied.

DX51D+AZ Coil Weight & Length Calculator

Estimate the relationship between base metal thickness, AZ coating mass, coil width and net coil weight before requesting mill-confirmed figures.

Estimate Coil Length & Total Weight

Enter base metal thickness (BMT) and the total two-sided AZ coating mass. The result includes the coating as an added mass, not as an extra steel thickness.

Estimate excludes strapping, packaging, dimensional tolerances and mass variation. Confirm whether quoted thickness is BMT or total coated thickness (TCT).

DX51D+AZ / COIL BUYING QUESTIONS

DX51D+AZ Galvalume Steel Coil FAQs

Technical answers about coating composition, AZ mass, forming grade, standards editions, applications and international procurement.

What is DX51D+AZ Galvalume Steel Coil?

DX51D is a low-carbon bending and profiling steel grade. +AZ identifies a hot-dip 55% aluminum-zinc alloy coating, commonly specified in AZ coating-mass classes.

Does DX51D+AZ mean the same as DX51D+Z?

No. DX51D is the substrate grade, but +AZ specifies aluminum-rich zinc alloy coating while +Z denotes zinc coating. The coating systems have different compositions and corrosion characteristics.

What do AZ100, AZ150 and AZ185 mean?

Under EN 10346:2015 these indicate minimum triple-spot average coating masses of 100, 150 and 185 g/m² respectively, measured across both sides together.

Is AZ150 equal to 150 g/m² per side?

No. AZ150 is the total two-sided coating mass designation, not 150 g/m² on each face.

Is DX51D+AZ covered by EN 10346:2026?

DX51D+AZ is explicitly included in EN 10346:2015. Because revisions of EN 10346 have been published, ask us to confirm the edition and grade/coating eligibility applicable to your order before a standards-compliance claim is made.

What tensile strength is associated with DX51D?

The EN 10346:2015 DX51D reference specifies 270–500 MPa tensile strength for its relevant conditions. The actual certificate and applicable edition govern the order.

Does DX51D have a guaranteed minimum yield strength?

The referenced DX51D table does not prescribe a single fixed guaranteed yield range. For structural load requirements, request the specified structural grade instead.

Can DX51D+AZ be used for roofing panels?

It can be considered for roll-formed roofing and cladding profiles. The project engineer must confirm the grade, sheet thickness, span, load case, corrosion exposure and profile geometry.

Which is better, AZ coating or GI coating?

Coating behavior depends on environment, exposed edges, design and coating mass. Compare the performance specification and exposure conditions rather than equating AZ and GI mass designations.

Is AZ coating available with anti-fingerprint treatment?

Surface treatments such as passivation or anti-fingerprint protection may be specified subject to mill capability and compatibility with the intended process.

Does your coil calculator include the AZ coating mass?

Yes. It adds the combined AZ coating mass to a steel substrate calculated from base metal thickness. Entering total coated thickness as BMT would count the coating twice.

What should I send to request a price for DX51D+AZ coil?

Provide the standard edition, AZ coating class, BMT or TCT, width, coil ID, net MT/coil, total tonnage, surface protection, inspection requirements and destination.
