Measured gauge may refer to the coated product or steel substrate depending on the contract and standard. Always state the thickness basis on the RFQ.
The chemical analysis applies to the steel substrate, not the zinc coating. This reference table follows published mill data for the EN 10346 DX51D grade; the contracted standard edition and heat-specific MTC control acceptance.
| Element | Reference maximum, mass % |
|---|---|
| Carbon (C) | 0.18 |
| Silicon (Si) | 0.50 |
| Manganese (Mn) | 1.20 |
| Phosphorus (P) | 0.120 |
| Sulfur (S) | 0.045 |
| Titanium (Ti) | 0.30 |
These are published DX51D reference maxima, not a heat-analysis certificate. Check composition and any supplementary limits against the edition specified for your order.
Where downstream welding, coating, forming or product approval depends on composition, request suitable inspection documentation and specify any additional element restrictions before production.
Mechanical performance depends on thickness, processing route, product edition and test conditions. The table below gives widely published DX51D+Z reference values for transverse testing, not a blanket coil-by-coil guarantee.
| Property | Published reference |
|---|---|
| Tensile strength Rm | 270–500 MPa |
| Yield strength / proof strength | No fixed DX51D grade-wide yield value in the referenced published tables |
| A80 elongation, 0.20–<0.35 mm | ≥15% in the published manufacturer range |
| A80 elongation, 0.35–<0.50 mm | ≥18% |
| A80 elongation, 0.50–<0.70 mm | ≥20% |
| A80 elongation, 0.70–6.00 mm | ≥22% within applicable product scope |
| Typical application focus | Bending, profiling and general roll forming |
Under EN coating designations, the stated mass is the minimum total coating mass for both sides in the specified test. Zinc mass influences corrosion protection, bend performance, and coating process design.
| Coating | Minimum total mass, both sides | Typical per-side guide |
|---|---|---|
| Z100 | 100 g/m² | Approx. 7 µm |
| Z140 | 140 g/m² | Approx. 10 µm |
| Z180 | 180 g/m² | Approx. 13 µm |
| Z200 | 200 g/m² | Approx. 14 µm |
| Z225 | 225 g/m² | Approx. 16 µm |
| Z275 | 275 g/m² | Approx. 20 µm |
| Z350 | 350 g/m² | Approx. 25 µm |
The per-side thickness is a typical guidance value, not a guaranteed equal split of zinc between surfaces. Coating availability and acceptance follow the agreed order standard.
Provide the exposure conditions, forming radius, corrosion-performance requirement and any paint or prepaint process. A thicker coating is a specification choice, not a substitute for verified corrosion design.
The zinc coating appearance, surface quality and temporary storage protection are separate order parameters. Specify them independently for consistent downstream forming and inspection.
Use an agreed visual reference or surface requirement when the zinc crystallization pattern is important to the finished part.
Confirm whether a smoother or skin-passed surface is required for profiling, painting or visible fabricated components.
State the relevant appearance category under the contract standard, especially for exposed or painted parts.
Discuss passivation, oiling and storage conditions to manage temporary white-rust risk during shipment.
Specify slit edge, burr tolerance, camber and dimensional requirements that affect line feeding.
Attach the end-user finish requirement and preferred coil processing method.
A complete specification allows sales and engineering teams to quote the same material, coating and coil geometry required by the production line.

Provide total tonnes, packaging, lifting constraints, port and Incoterms with your preferred schedule.
DX51D+Z is primarily a substrate for general profiling, folding and fabricated steel products. Use the part drawing, forming process and environmental exposure to select the final coating and delivery condition.
Input material for corrugated roofing, trapezoidal sheet and basic wall profiles after checking required coating mass and profile geometry.
Galvanized strip and sheet for ductwork, plenums, fittings and fabricated air-handling components.

Low-complexity formed housings, covers and panels specified for galvanized steel substrate and surface protection.
Coil stock for distributors buying to a particular zinc coating, width and gauge schedule.
Share the profile drawing and effective width to help specify the correct GI input coil.
Estimate the running length in a coil using the steel substrate's nominal thickness plus zinc coating mass on both surfaces. The tool is intended for preliminary planning, not billing or final load certification.
Use the nominal uncoated steel substrate thickness and the specified total zinc mass for both sides. Keep these separate to avoid double-counting coating thickness.
Steel = t(mm) × w(mm) × 0.00785 kg/m. Zinc = coating(g/m²) × width(m) ÷ 1000 kg/m. Coil length = net mass(kg) ÷ combined kg/m.
The estimate uses steel density 7,850 kg/m³ and the input zinc mass as an approximation. Actual measured coating mass, thickness tolerance and coil net weight may differ.
Continuous hot-dip coating links substrate preparation, zinc application and surface finishing. The purchaser's grade, coating class and coil tolerances define the finished product requirements.
Material selection and strip preparation to support the requested forming quality and gauge.
Zinc deposition is controlled against the agreed total coating-mass requirement.
Surface finishing and agreed temporary protection for storage and downstream forming.
Relevant dimensions, coating mass and coil identification are checked for the ordered specification.
Tell us whether the coil will be roll formed, slit, cut to length or painted. These process details help identify the relevant coating, surface, flatness and edge requirements.
Use a supplier that can coordinate the full coil specification, required documentation and bulk delivery arrangements rather than treating all zinc-coated coils as interchangeable.

Grade, zinc-mass class and surface class are independently specified properties. The inspection scope should reflect the end use and the agreed EN 10346 edition.
Supply confirmation depends on the exact gauge, width, coating class, coil mass and requested quantity. Company-wide steel inventory figures are not a DX51D+Z stock guarantee.
Provide target dates and whether your order requires exact standard edition, surface type, coil ID or allowable mill substitutions. We will verify supply and quote the suitable arrangement.
Correct coil protection is especially important for zinc-coated surfaces, where transit moisture and damaged edges can affect downstream processing.
Packaging arrangements are confirmed according to the net weight, shipment method and buyer requirements. Include any indoor storage, surface protection and crane or forklift restrictions.

Answers to common grade, coating, thickness, forming, inspection and shipping questions from bulk steel buyers.
DX51D is a low-carbon grade for bending and profiling under the agreed EN 10346 edition; +Z identifies a hot-dip zinc metallic coating.
No. DX51D+Z identifies the steel grade and coating type. Z275 is an additional coating-mass designation that must be specified separately.
Under the relevant EN coating designation, Z275 refers to a minimum total coating mass of 275 g/m² for both sides in the applicable triple-spot test.
It is primarily a bending/profiling grade. For more demanding drawn parts, compare DX52D or DX53D and request project-specific forming requirements.
Choose the coating class using corrosion exposure, service requirements, forming geometry and any paint process; include the selected class in your inquiry.
Published EN 10346 DX51D product tables commonly state tensile strength and elongation without a universal yield-strength requirement for this grade. Confirm contract acceptance.
DX51D+Z and SGCC belong to different European and Japanese standard systems. They may serve similar applications, but chemical, mechanical and coating requirements require cross-standard checking.
Submit the profile drawing, bend geometry, thickness tolerance, width, zinc class and required coil mass. The suitable supply arrangement will be confirmed in the quotation.
State the applicable standard and whether the number refers to the steel substrate or finished coated gauge. The calculator on this page requires uncoated steel thickness.
