Specify the production route accepted by your piping specification; the pipe grade alone does not determine route suitability.
A pipe route without a longitudinal production weld seam. Buyers should confirm diameter and wall tolerances, heat treatment, surface condition and required tests.
Straight-seam welded and heavily cold-worked welded forms are covered where permitted by the product standard. Confirm the weld route, condition and examination criteria for the selected pipe.
Seamless pipe: verify dimensions and inspection requirements.
Welded pipe: specify production and test conditions.
Compare common nominal outside diameters and wall schedules, then specify exact order tolerances.

A practical material-selection guide for engineering buyers handling chloride exposure and welded stainless process piping.
Compared with 304L, TP316L contains molybdenum that can improve resistance to localized attack in many chloride-bearing solutions. The improvement depends on chloride concentration, temperature, pH, oxygen, crevices, flow and cleaning chemistry.
State the finish and cleanliness condition required for installation, welding and corrosion service.
Request pickled, descaled or mechanically finished surfaces according to the applicable pipe route. If the service has hygienic or cleanliness requirements, include measurable finish and handling criteria rather than a generic “polished” instruction.
Typical B2B use cases where corrosion control, fabrication and pipe documentation guide the purchase.
Piping and spools for selected process fluids, with compatibility established by the project engineer.
Lines and utility piping when the required cleanliness and finish are included in the specification.
Project-approved service lines with documented surface, welding and traceability requirements.
Piping selected for the particular water chemistry; chloride and disinfectant exposures must be assessed.
Headers, connections and equipment piping fabricated to the applicable product and design code.
Selected atmospheric or washdown exposure, with chloride, crevice and maintenance risks evaluated.
Applications are illustrative; pressure rating, corrosion compatibility, cleanliness and code acceptance depend on the specific project.
Estimate kilograms per meter and total metric tonnes for common S-series pipe schedules or custom dimensions.
Select a standard nominal size and wall schedule or enter the precise OD and wall from your material list. The model uses a nominal density of 8.00 g/cm³.
Material chemistry, production route and final heat-treated condition should agree with the purchase-order requirements.
Confirm the pipe route, heat-treated state, outside diameter, thickness and end condition at order stage. For welded forms, align weld-seam controls and examinations with the ordered product standard.
Company-wide steel supply experience, specification review and export coordination for industrial buyers.
Discuss 316L alongside 304L, 304 and duplex 2205 with grade-specific specifications and separate availability confirmation.
8 million MT annual steel output and 1 million MT regular inventory are company-wide figures; TP316L stock and manufacturing source are quoted separately.
Request MTC, heat/lot identification and project-specific third-party inspection requirements.
Coordinate pipe lengths, protective packing, shipment terms and destination paperwork with the quotation.
Connect the grade certificate to real heat chemistry, dimensional checks, material condition and contracted examination.
The standard and accepted examination route vary with pipe form, size, ordered edition and supplementary purchase terms.
For fabricated pipe spools or installation-ready lengths, send an itemized cut list and end drawings.
Provide cut dimensions, length tolerance, quantity per size and end-protection instructions.
Include the required bevel geometry and relevant welding drawing references.
Define internal / external surfaces, finish level and cleanliness needed at destination.
Match protective wrapping, heat marking and pipe labels to the shipment plan.
Confirm production capability, accepted tolerance, documentation and processing cost with the quotation.
Get an item-by-item supply confirmation for your project, supported by grade, manufacturing route and inspection details.
Ask for a grade-specific availability check, rather than assuming stainless pipe inventory matches the company-wide stock figure. Production route, finish, nominal wall and MTC requirements can change sourcing and delivery schedules.
Protect pipe finishes, heat identification and straightness across handling, storage and export transport.
Request appropriate pipe support, end protection, moisture control and item identification. Confirm loading and unloading constraints for long or heavy pipe bundles.
Choose pipe materials based on chemistry, fabrication and service conditions instead of nominal alloy price alone.
| Pipe grade | Material distinction | Selection consideration |
|---|---|---|
| 304 / TP304 | Cr-Ni austenitic; no intentional 2–3% Mo addition | General corrosion-resistant piping where the environment permits. |
| 304L / TP304L | Lower-carbon Cr-Ni grade without Mo addition | Welded systems when chloride-pitting resistance beyond 304L is not required. |
| 316L / TP316L | Low-carbon, 2–3% Mo; austenitic | Corrosion-sensitive fabrication requiring its specific alloy chemistry. |
| 2205 / UNS S32205 | Duplex stainless grade with higher reference strength | Project-approved option where corrosion / mechanical demands justify it. |
Find adjacent piping alloys and other product forms while keeping ASTM product specifications separate.
Send the required grades, schedules, inspection rules and line-item quantities together for a consolidated purchasing review.

TP316L (UNS S31603) is a low-carbon, molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless pipe grade available under ASTM A312 in specified seamless and welded forms.
316L typically contains 2–3% molybdenum, while 304L does not have this intentional addition. This can improve localized corrosion resistance in selected chloride-bearing conditions; service evaluation remains necessary.
Published A312 pipe tables show a 0.035% maximum for TP316L. The 0.030% figure is common in ASTM A240 plate/sheet references. Specify a tighter project limit explicitly if required.
S31603 identifies the low-carbon 316L austenitic stainless grade. The purchased product must also meet the relevant pipe standard and ordered condition.
Yes. ASTM A312 covers specified seamless, straight-seam welded and heavily cold-worked welded austenitic stainless pipe. Confirm the manufacturing route approved for your project.
State NPS and an ASME B36.19 stainless schedule such as 10S, 40S or 80S, subject to the applicable nominal size, or provide an exact OD and nominal wall.
316L has useful corrosion resistance but is vulnerable to pitting and crevice attack in some seawater environments. Temperature, stagnation, chlorides and crevice geometry require engineering review.
Common ASTM A312 TP316L pipe references use 485 MPa minimum tensile and 170 MPa minimum 0.2% yield. Apply the contract edition and specimen requirements.
Dual certification is possible only when the supplied product meets the complete requirements of both ordered grades and the material test certificate documents the acceptance.
Specify MTC and heat traceability, chemistry, mechanical testing, dimensional checks and the agreed hydrostatic or nondestructive examination, plus any third-party reports.
Use π × (OD − wall) × wall × 0.00800 kg/m with OD and wall in millimeters, then multiply by length and quantity. It is a nominal steel-only estimate.
Send TP316L standard edition, seamless/welded route, NPS or OD, wall schedule, lengths, quantity, surface, end finish, testing requirements and delivery destination.
Send your required grade, dimensions, quantity and destination. Our team will review the inquiry.
