What is 304 stainless steel wire?
304 stainless steel wire is an austenitic chromium-nickel alloy product, often cold drawn and supplied in coils or on spools. Type 304 is UNS S30400, with reference chromium 18–20% and nickel 8–10.5%.
What is the applicable ASTM standard?
For general stainless wire, ASTM A580/A580M-23 is the core material standard and ASTM A555/A555M-23 provides general wire and wire rod requirements. Spring and weaving uses may need different product standards.
Is 304 stainless steel wire available in soft and hard conditions?
Annealed and cold-worked wire conditions are used for different fabrication needs. State whether soft forming performance or a higher tensile range is required and confirm the final diameter.
What is the carbon content of Type 304?
The reference Type 304 maximum is 0.08% carbon. The chosen ASTM edition and actual heat analysis govern compliance.
Can I use 304 wire for springs?
Some Type 304 wire is used in spring applications, but spring wire must be specified and evaluated under an applicable spring-wire standard such as ASTM A313/A313M and the required diameter-specific tensile condition.
What is the difference between 304 and 316L stainless wire?
316L has approximately 2–3% molybdenum and a lower carbon limit (0.03%), potentially improving resistance in selected chloride-bearing service. Grade suitability depends on the actual application.
Which wire diameters can you supply?
The page shows reference inquiry diameters from 0.20 to 6.00 mm. Quote feasibility and actual stock are checked for the requested gauge, temper, finish, quantity and packing.
Is bright wire the same as annealed wire?
No. Brightness is a surface/finish feature, while annealed or cold-worked is a metallurgical condition. Both must be specified separately.
How is stainless steel wire weight calculated?
For solid round Type 304 wire, theoretical kg per metre is approximately 0.006228 × d² with d in millimetres and reference density 7.93 g/cm³. Shipping weight is confirmed from actual packing and weighing.
Do you offer wire in coils and spools?
Coils, spools and reels can be discussed in an RFQ. The actual options and net pack mass depend on gauge, condition, total order and producing-mill capability.
Can you provide material test documents?
Specify the MTC format, chemistry and tensile measurements required. Availability of certificates and any third-party inspection is confirmed for the actual producing mill and shipment.
What should I include in a bulk 304 wire enquiry?
Provide diameter/tolerance, grade, standard, temper, finish, package size, total mass, inspection requirements and delivery destination.
