The relevant class rules, producing mill approval range, specimen requirements and plate condition govern material acceptance.
For DH32, verify the −20°C impact acceptance against each ordered thickness band and specimen orientation.
| Nominal thickness | Impact temperature | Longitudinal min. avg. | Transverse min. avg. |
|---|---|---|---|
| t ≤ 50 mm | −20°C | 31 J | 22 J |

The 32 strength class uses a 315 MPa minimum yield and 440–570 MPa tensile range.
Impact energy rises with plate thickness; confirm the actual Charpy records by heat and test orientation.
Confirm the relevant mill approval, steelmaking route, thickness range and survey document package.
Use the producer’s heat analysis and the relevant class-approved steelmaking practice to verify DH32 chemistry and weldability.
| Element | IACS Reference Requirement |
|---|---|
| Carbon (C) | ≤ 0.18% |
| Manganese (Mn) | 0.90–1.60%* |
| Silicon (Si) | ≤ 0.50% |
| Phosphorus (P) | ≤ 0.035% |
| Sulfur (S) | ≤ 0.035% |
| Acid-soluble aluminium (Al) | ≥ 0.015% where the Al route applies |
| Copper (Cu) | ≤ 0.35% |
| Chromium (Cr) | ≤ 0.20% |
| Nickel (Ni) | ≤ 0.40% |
| Molybdenum (Mo) | ≤ 0.08% |
The selected steelmaking practice may use aluminium, niobium, vanadium, titanium or an approved combination of grain-refining elements.
The Mn minimum may be 0.70% at thicknesses up to 12.5 mm under the IACS proviso. The actual class-approved composition, grain-refining practice and material certificate govern acceptance.
