Standard-edition caution: Online SPCC tables from older JIS editions frequently list different composition limits. Values on this page reference JIS G 3141:2021; apply the edition explicitly accepted in your order.
TEMPER CONDITION / TENSILE REQUIREMENTS

SPCC Mechanical Properties & Temper Grades

SPCC and SPCCT are different purchase specifications. State the required temper, surface and acceptance tests instead of relying on an unqualified tensile-strength claim.

COMMERCIAL-QUALITY SPCC

No default tensile minimum

JIS G 3141:2021 does not prescribe a general minimum tensile strength or elongation for plain SPCC designation.

SPCCT / AGREED GUARANTEE

Tensile testing on request

Where guaranteed tensile strength and elongation are ordered under SPCCT, a 270 MPa minimum tensile value applies within the specified test conditions.

TEMPER / HARDNESS

S, A, 8, 4, 2, 1

Specify standard temper (S), as-annealed (A) or hard-temper options by the intended forming and hardness requirements.

Designation exampleConditionBuyer interpretation
SPCC-SDStandard temper (S), dull finish (D)Common general-purpose designation; verify surface and hardness needs
SPCC-SBStandard temper (S), bright finish (B)Choose where a smoother surface is appropriate
SPCC-AAs-annealed (A)Application-specific softness and flatness; surface-finish notation follows JIS rules
SPCC-8 / -4 / -2 / -11/8, 1/4, 1/2 and full-hard conditionsHardness/ductility differ; specify the desired temper and tests
SPCCTSPCC with agreed tensile-strength/elongation guaranteeMechanical acceptance varies with nominal thickness and test conditions
Mechanical-property note: SPCCT standard-temper minimum elongation changes with material thickness and test specimen, and bright finishing can affect the specified elongation. Hard-temper grades have separate hardness provisions. Confirm the exact table and edition before setting acceptance limits.
DULL / BRIGHT / OILED SURFACE

Choose the SPCC Surface Finish for Your Fabrication

The visible face of cold rolled coil matters in painting, panel forming and subsequent coating. Specify whether you require a matte dull finish, smooth bright finish or supplementary surface control.

SPCC-SD cold rolled steel sheet coil with a matte dull finish

Dull Finish (D)

A matte surface generated by controlled work-roll texture; a practical choice for many general sheet-metal applications.

SPCC-SB bright finished cold rolled steel coil surface

Bright Finish (B)

A smoother rolled surface selected where appearance or downstream finishing needs require it.

SPCC-SDSPCC-SBProtective OilSurface Defect LimitsEdge Burr
Surface agreement: D and B are JIS surface-finish symbols, not blanket guarantees of zero visible defects or a specified roughness (Ra). Add the inspection level and any Ra or oil-film requirement in the RFQ.

7.85 G/CM³ / ESTIMATED NET COIL LENGTH

SPCC Cold Rolled Coil Length & Weight Calculator

Use nominal steel density to estimate running metres per coil, linear mass and shipment net tonnage. This supports slitting plans and quotation discussions.

Enter Coil Dimensions

All values are based on nominal dimensions; coil weight should be entered as net steel mass excluding packing.

Formula: kg/m = thickness (mm) × width (mm) × 0.00785; metres/coil = net coil kg ÷ kg/m. A theoretical estimate, not a packing weight or a guaranteed delivered length.

Cold rolling mill finishing cold reduced steel strip into SPCC coils
PICKLING / COLD REDUCTION / ANNEALING

How SPCC Cold Rolled Coils Are Produced

Cold rolled strip starts from hot rolled coil. Pickling removes surface scale; reduction mills control gauge; annealing restores ductility where required; skin passing helps establish the specified surface and shape.

Finished coils can then be inspected, oiled, slit or recoiled according to the agreed supply route. Each delivered order should be traceable to its material and inspection record.

  • Pickled hot strip and controlled gauge reduction
  • Annealing and temper condition to order requirements
  • Surface and dimensional checks
  • Coil identification and agreed packaging

BUYER FAQ / SPCC COLD ROLLED COIL

SPCC Cold Rolled Steel Coil FAQ

Answers to common questions about JIS SPCC designation, mechanical guarantees, surface finish and international coil orders.

What does SPCC mean?

SPCC is a commercial-quality cold-reduced carbon steel grade within JIS G 3141. Confirm the full temper and surface designation when placing the order.

Does JIS SPCC guarantee a 270 MPa tensile minimum?

Plain SPCC does not carry a general tensile-strength or elongation minimum under JIS G 3141:2021. A tensile guarantee may be specified through SPCCT with the relevant thickness and specimen conditions.

What is the difference between SPCC-SD and SPCC-SB?

Both indicate standard temper (S). The final D identifies dull surface finish and B identifies bright surface finish; the required appearance and roughness should be agreed.

Is SPCC the same as DC01?

They are separate grade designations in different standards. Similar applications do not establish automatic interchangeability; compare chemical, mechanical, surface and drawing requirements before approving a substitution.

Can SPCC be used for deep drawing?

SPCC serves general commercial forming. More demanding drawing often calls for a specific drawing grade such as SPCD, SPCE or DC04 with suitable formability requirements.

What thickness and coil size can you provide?

Share nominal gauge, tolerance, width, inner diameter, preferred net coil weight and quantity. Availability and delivery specifications will be confirmed against actual supply.

Can you supply slit SPCC coils?

Slitting and cut-to-length requests can be reviewed against the selected grade, finish, width, quantity and processing route; include edge-burr limits if critical.

How can I estimate SPCC coil length?

Use nominal thickness (mm) × width (mm) × 0.00785 to get kg/m. Divide the net coil mass in kilograms by kg/m to estimate metres. Final length depends on actual measured dimensions.
